Partner Guide to Exporting Quick Cube Projects


Jet Enterprise partners will oftentimes be requested to make changes and customizations to a client’s main project. Because it is not always feasible to do this work onsite it is possible to obtain an export of the client’s project in order to complete the customizations. This document will outline the steps necessary to export the project from the client’s environment, complete the customizations on the partner’s machine, and then import the completed project back into the client’s live environment.

One thing to note is that the partner will need to have a local copy of the client’s database accessible to the Jet Data Manager. This database can reside on either the partner’s local machine or on a server in the partner’s office. The reason for this is that the Jet Data Manager will synchronize with this data in order to read all of the objects that exist in the client’s database.


Exporting a Quick Cube Project

To export the Quick Cube project open the project on the client’s machine, click the Cube icon in the upper left-hand corner of the Jet Data Manager and select Import/Export Export Quick Cube Project .

Type the file name and specify where the XML file should be saved and click Save .

Importing the Quick Cube Project for Development

Once the XML file has been exported from the client site the partner can import it into their local environment. It is important to note that the project is currently protected with the client’s Jet Data Manager activation code. In order to do development work the partner must first activate their copy of the Jet Data Manager with the client’s activation code.

To activate the Jet Data Manager with the client’s activation code go to the Tools menu and select Activate Client from the Partner Menu window.

Select Internet – I have a license code from the next window.

Enter the client’s activation code and click Send .

The client’s project can now be imported into the partner’s Jet Data Manager without any licensing errors.

To Import the Project , click on the Cube icon in the upper left-hand corner of the Jet Data Manager and select Import/Export → Import Project.

Click the ellipsis (…) to the right of the Import File field and select the XML file. Click OK.

A window will appear notifying the user that the project was imported successfully. It will prompt to run the Connection Manager. This will allow the partner to select the staging database, data source, data warehouse, and OLAP database to use for the project while they are implementing the customizations. Click Yes to run the Connection Manager.

Once the connections are configured the partner can implement any requested changes for the client.

Returning the Project to the Client

Once all customization's have been completed and tested the same steps outlined in previous sections can be used to export the project from the partner’s local environment into an XML and then the updated project can be imported into the client’s environment. Once this process has been done the partner can reactivate their own Jet Data Manager with the partner’s internal activation code.
