Error - The remote server returned an error (429) when using a Business Central Public Cloud data source

Overview

When using Jet Reports with a Business Central Public Cloud data source the user may receive an error of "The remote server returned an error (429)".

In early August 2019 Microsoft began throttling API requests to Business Central public cloud data sources. The limit was changed from 1,000 API requests per second to 10 API requests per second (this covers both ODATA and SOAP requests).

This means that a limit has been imposed on the number of requests that can be sent to a Business Central tenant per user small period of time. Once this limit has been reached the number of requests that can be submitted will be slowed.

Resolution Process

Microsoft has said that limits can be increased for individual Business Central tenant. One resolution may be to have your IT team or your partner reach out to Microsoft in order to have the API limit increased for your Business Central tenant.

Jet Reports released a fix to this issue in Jet Reports 20.3 Build 20.3.19227.2 which resolves the issue in this and all future releases.
