Access is Denied Error

I'm using version 19.8.19072.1 (32-bit) on Windows 10 with Excel 365.  I'm not connecting to a Jet Service Tier so have just imported data sources which connect to a NAV 2009 R2 database.  Within this database there are 6 companies, each represented as a different data source.  I can run the "Test Connection" for each data source and all are successful.

Whenever I try and run a report I get the error message shown below:

In design mode the first row is showing the data but all subsequent rows just show #VALUE.  If I change the report to output rows from a single data source then it works fine.

I've logged this with support and they are unable to fix it.  It works fine on Windows 7.

  Hello Paul -

  From what you describe, it would appear to be an issue with the access permissions of the user account (which Windows 7 and Windows 10 handle VERY differently, from what I understand).

  When connecting to older versions of NAV, Jet uses NAV's "C/Front" utility (this is part of the NAV SDK and handles the vast majority of communications between those older versions of NAV and other applications).

  I appears that you are using a 64-bit version of Excel.  Since NAV 2009R2 (and C/Front) are 32-bit applications, communications between the 64-bit app and the 32-bit apps require a separate Jet utility (JetFrontServer.exe).

  JetFrontServer resides in

  \Program Files (x86)\JetReports

  and provides access to the CFRONT.DLL files located in the Dynamics NAV folder

  ( \Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\60\SDK\CFRONT ).

  You would probably need to check with your IT staff to determine if there is some issue with your user account accessing those two folders.

  I am by no means an OS or user rights expert.  I would recommend continuing to work with Jet Tech Support

   

  (FYI... while it is certainly possible to have a separate data source for each company, it is generally easier to simply have a single data source and use the "COMPANY=" filter to define the specific company within your NAV database you want to access).

  It turns out this was caused by Windows Defender which prevents Office creating child processes.  The details can be found here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/windows-defender-exploit-guard/customize-attack-surface-reduction.

  I had to get our IT department to exclude the location where all our Jet Reports are located.
