Error: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done

Symptoms

When attempting to deploy rights from the OLAP Server User Rights screen, the following error message may appear:

noMapping.jpg

"The following system error occurred: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done. .  Do you want to try again?"

Cause

There is at least one user who has either been removed from the Windows Active Directory or whose name changed since the last successful OLAP Security Rights deployment.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you will need to identify which user it is whose account is causing the disconnect.  The easiest way to do this is to go into SQL Server Management Studio, connect to Analysis Services, and then review the properties for each role within your OLAP server.

You should see one that has either a blank row, no entries at all, or a name that doesn't conform to your Active Directory environment. Note which Role this is (i.e. 'DSV Admin').

Now proceed into the OLAP Server User Rights screen once more, locate this role and either select Remove Role (if only one user) or Edit Role (if more than one user).  If you choose Edit Role, locate the Active Directory entry in question from the ensuing list and remove it.
