Symptoms
Sometimes it is not possible to start the Microsoft Analysis Services service. When you try to manually start it under Services, you get the following error:
"The SQL Server Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER) service on {computer name} started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service."
Cause:
The problem most often occurs after a re-install of SQL Server.
Resolution
The workaround is to clear the application log in the Event Viewer

Open Event Viewer

Locate the Application log, right click it, and select Clear Log...
You can the select Save and Clear (if you want to save the log entries before clearing the log) or just Clear

Go to Services and start the Microsoft Analysis Services service
Start the service by right clicking on the service and select Start
