Create A Multi-Tenant Business Central (Dynamics 365 SQL Server) Data Source


This information applies to Jet Reports 2019R2 and higher

Overview

Jet Reports supports direct connections to multi-tenant environments for Dynamics 365 Business Central.

 

Multi-Tenancy

Dynamics 365 Business Central supports multi-tenancy (where a single instance of the software runs on a server, serving multiple tenants).

Configuring the Data Source in the Jet Administration Console

If your organization uses the Jet Service Tier to provide centralized data source settings to the Jet Excel add-in and/or Jet Hub, you can use the Jet Administration Console to configure a connection to a multi-tenant BC install. 

  1. Dynamics Business Central Direct SQL Server Multitenant

    • Give your data source a descriptive name
    • For the Database Type, select Dynamics 365 Business Central
    • For the Connection Method, select Direct SQL Server - Multitenant 
    • Click Add
    • Click OK

  2. In the Jet Administration Console the Authentication section, you'll need to confirm which user account will be used to access both the Application and the Tenant.

  3. In addition to the application server setting in the Connection section, configure the correct Server, Database, and Company for the specific tenant you want this data source to access:

Configuring the Data Soure in Jet Reports Data Source Settings

Even if your organization does not use the Jet Service Tier, you can use the Jet Excel add-in to configure a data source for use with multi-tenant Business Central.  

  1. Dynamics 365 Business Central Direct SQL Server - Multitenant

    • Give your data source a descriptive name
    • For the Database Type, select Dynamics 365 Business Central
    • For the Connection Method, select Direct SQL Server - Multitenant 
    • Click Add

  2. In the Authentication tab, you'll need to confirm which user account(s) will be used to access both the Application and the Tenant.
