No room to add columns error

I am using excel 2007 and the column limit is over 16K… however, i get an error no room to add columns error at column IX yet I am able to scroll to column ARM+ Anyone have any ideas what might be happening? I have tried to select as many columns to the right of the report as possible and delete but still doesnt solve the problem.. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

  Even though Excel 2007 allows you to have many more rows than Excel 2003, Jet Reports still follows the Excel 2003 limits.

  We have a couple of customers that upgraded to Excel 2007 to get rid of the rows/columns limitations. They wonder why Jet still follows Excel 2003 whereas other reporting tools that export data into Excel don't. And of course they would like to be informed when there will no longer be a limitation.
