I get an error message: Microsoft Office Excel cannot access the file C:\Program Files (x86)\JetReports\JetReports.xlam, installing Jet Reports on a 64 bit server running Windows 2003 R2. I am logged on as a Administrator. Therefore this is not a permission issue. The file does exist and JetReports.xla is not active.
Is there a solution to this problem?

Jet Reports Historic Posts I suppose you are running a Office 2007? Otherwise you'll need to look for the .xla file rather than the .xlam.
I once had this issue but I was able to solve it with a simple reboot… -
Jet Reports Historic Posts Jan,
Indeed, I am using Excel 2007.
A reboot didn't solve the problem. -
Jet Reports Historic Posts I solved the problem!
The reason why I received the error message was because I installed only the Microsoft Office Excel 2007 part of the setup. Jet Reports needs the have the Microsoft Office Shared Features part too.
First I did a second installation on a Windows Xp x64 system, but I received the same error message.
After installing Microsoft Office Shared Features part, the problem was solved. -
Jet Reports Historic Posts Thanks for the info! Very interesting!
Good luck with JetReports! -
Jet Reports Historic Posts This was extremely helpful information.
I have installed Office 2010 Beta. After trying Jet Reports with it it caused errors and would not work with Excel 2010. After adding back Excel 2007 I thought this error was related to 2010 beta but it is not! To install 2007 Excel to use with Jet Reports ensure to include "Visual Basic for Applications" under Office Shared Features (only feature that seems to be needed) to avoid recieving this error.
Jet Reports will work in 2007 with 2010 Beta installed but can not be used with 2010 beta just yet.
Thanks for your posted solution! -
Jet Reports Historic Posts I installed Office 2010 beta a few weeks ago and Jet Reports 2009 does work successfully.
i'm not sure if this is because i also have Office 2007 as well -
Jet Reports Historic Posts This was useful for me too, thanks. I was installing JetReports on a server which only had Microsoft Excel 2010 and I got the error message you posted.
When I installed the Office Shared Features the issue was resolved and Jet Reports Add-In activated OK (didn't even need manual activation).
I know this is an old thread but still useful! -
Jet Reports Historic Posts Me too, saved me hours, thank you!
Just one tip : You don’t have to install the whole of the "MS Office Shared Features" package but just the subset "Visual Basic for Applications "
A detailed description of this issue is posted in the Jetreports KB at http://kb.jetreports.com/article/AA-00529/0/Activation-Error-Excel-Cannot-Access-.xlam-or-.xla.html
but the problem is that you will not find this KB article as easily because the actual error message has not been indexed (?) against it. I found it only after searching for the term
"Office Shared Features" which of course I knew about only after reading this post.
