I'm very new to jet reporting and becoming stuck whilst writing a report. I used the GL financial overview by department report as a base that i want to tweak. My company has 4 different dimensions tables. The above report lets me run on one of the dimensions but when i try to run any of the others it does not work. Can anyone help resolve this? I'm currently trying to use this as a reporting option but failing miserably!
I'm not sure I fully understand the questions because I haven't heard of having four different dimension tables (maybe you mean four different dimensions?), but here are some insights to this report:
1. It uses the GL function. The GL function, by default can only use Global Dimension 1 and Global Dimension 2. You can use up to four dimensions if you have an Analysis View created with those four dimensions but that is set up in NAV/BC, not Jet. If you need more than 4 dimensions, you cannot use the GL function.
2. The report is currently set up to use Global Dimension 1. If you need to report on other dimensions, you will need to update all of the GL functions to use the the filters you need. So if you need to use GD2, you will need to open all the GL functions and add that filter, or if you have an Analysis View, choose that view and update the dimension filters.
Another alternative is to use the NL("Sum") against the GL Entry table. You are not restricted by the amount of dimensions to filter on with that function. The performance is a bit slower than the GL function but still is an option for Income Statement reports. That option does not work well for Balance sheet type reports, though.
(SIDENOTE: I'm not sure why the writer chose to make GD1 = Department because that isn't something that is standard across all companies).
This might not be related to this post, but I am very curious on creating a lookup using NL function on GD1 and GD2, if that is even possible in Jet Reports. I have not been able to find many resources on that.
