Create a sales report, which provided me with a comparison of a given period. E.G. Sales volume from 2010 to 2011 per customer. Time specification should be flexible.

Jet Reports Historic Posts I have created this type of report but it required the formula type in the table builder which is only available with Jet Esssentials.

Have you tried the Cust. Ledger Entry table? This holds a.o. fields for Customer No., Posting Date and Sales amount.
After generating the Excel table with the Table Builder, create a Pivot table (or Pivot chart) from it.
Use the Grouping on Posting Date in the Pivot table to select an option like Month, Quarter or Year.
Thus you can generate Total sales amount per Period per Customer No.
By linking the Cust. Ledger Entry table to the Customer table, you may populate report with Customer master data.
The approach may be a bit different than what you had in mind, but would it work for you? Otherwise, have a look at Jet Essentials.
