Problem Installing Jet 2009

Hi everyone,

I am trying to install Jet 2009 and am running into a problem where it says

JetReports could not be automatically activated for the following reason:
ActiveX component can't create object
Manual activation is required

I noticed a post regarding this in the knowledgebase and so tried running regsvr32 scrrun.dll. I ran it from an elevated command prompt and received a message back saying it was successful. Then I tried to activate Jet and I received the same error message. Tried uninstalling and re-installing and same message came up.

Does anyone have any idea where I am going wrong, or how to fix this?

  The "activation" process for Jet Reports is really just adding the Jet Reports Excel add-in into Excel. So first you go to the Excel add-ins. Depending on the version of Excel, this is either Tools -> Add-ins (Excel 2003 and earlier) or Orb/File -> Excel Options -> Add-Ins -> Go (Excel 2007/2010). Then you click Browse and browse to "C:\Program Files (x86)\JetReports\JetReports.xlam" and click OK. At this point either you'll get a Jet menu/ribbon or else you'll get an error message (perhaps an error message similar to the one you got before or perhaps not).

  When you installed Jet Reports, did you right click the Jet Reports setup file and click "Run as Administrator" to run the Jet installer with elevated privileges? Also, have you tried manually activating Jet Reports?

  I did try running the setup file as an administrator and that did not work. I haven't tried manually activating it. How do you do that?

  When I go into Excel Add ins Jet Reports is not even listed. I just trid doing it on a clean install and I get the exact same error. I am trying to load 2009 onto Windows 7 with Office 2010, could that have anything to do with it.

  Yes I realize Jet Reports would not be listed in Add-ins. That's why you have to click the "Go…" button and then click Browse and browse to the Jet Reports XLAM file as I said. Then the Jet Reports add-in will be listed. For Office 2010, I would recommend you use Jet Reports 2010 as well. I'm not sure whether that would solve your problem, but it would be the first thing I would try. Does that help?

  So sorry I didn't read the above post all the way through. Once I did manual activation worked and solved the problem. Thanks again for all your help.
  
  The reason I didn't want to install 2010 was because I didn't want to have to upgrade all my other users to 2010 as well. This is still the case correct, every one should be using the same version?

  Yes you are correct, you should all be on the same version. Between 2009 and 2010, it PROBABLY wouldn't actually cause any problems to be on different versions, but there is the possibility there could be a problem, so it's always recommended to upgrade all machines at the same time. I'm glad this fixed the problem!
