Hey Guys,
maybe someone is able to help me with this matter.
We are currently implementing Microsoft Dynamics Nav 2009 using the RTC client in our company. For the reporting we chose Jet Reports 2010. Unfortunately we are not able to establish a connection with the database. It seems that Jet Reports recommends a Classic client. It uses to ask for a finsql.exe. We are not able to find this file in our Navision folder of the RTC client.
It is no problem to establish a connection when we are using a Classic client. But we don't want to install both versions for all our users that need to work with Jet Reports.
Thx
Andreas

Jet Reports Historic Posts Hi Andreas,
Unfortunately, C/Front requires the Nav classic client to be available in order to pull data from Navision. There is no way for Jet Reports to retrieve data from Nav 2009 without having the classic client on the machine. The classic client doesn't have to be installed (it can just be copied to the machine) and C/Front itself no longer has to be installed (the necessary C/Front components are installed with Jet Reports itself). But the classic client does have to be present on the machine. Jet Reports 2010 also has the option (in the data source settings) to drilldown into a grid rather than drilling into the classic client, since we realize some users do not use the classic client.

Jet Reports Historic Posts Hi Hughes,
does this also mean, that Jet will not work with the virtualization functionality of NAV 2009 R2?
thx

Jet Reports Historic Posts Hi Horst,
I believe that is correct. You can virtualize the role taylored client if you like, but the classic client must be on the local machine in order for Jet to be able to connect. This is because C/Front, which is the Navision component Jet Reports uses to access the Navision database, relies on the classic client to connect. There is a distinct possibility that this may change with a future release of Navision but at present, this is how it is.
