Hello
I am failing to successfuly run, schedule and email a dynamic batch report, based on your tutorial here: http://www.jetreports.com/video/jet-reports-tutorial-dynamic-batch-scheduling.php Can you assist me with where I'm going wrong?
I've attached my batch report and orders report. The report I'm trying to send out lists current purchase order headers & lines, showing the days and quantities that are outstanding. This is to be run overnight and emailed out to the end users of the goods, with the users only getting a list of their own orders.
BTW we run Jet 7.1.2 and Navision 4.0 sp1. To the extent it matters I could run this report in Excel 2003 or, on a Citrix remote desktop, in 2010. IT have asked me to try run this first locally (in 2003 therefore) before they'll set it up on a server (using 2010). We also run Exchange 2010.
I think I have the purchase order report set up as per the video, with the batch report entering the values into the report's named option fields. On my local machine I have permissions to use the Windows Task Scheduler. I've run it with Outlook closed and open. I don't believe I have to set up the SMTP server, given we use Exchange: our IT have SMTP Relay disabled as a rule and that is what Jet would need to run on if it were necessary to set up SMTP, correct? In any case I cannot find where to enter the SMTP details in Jet: there is no Application Settings in Jet 7, it seems.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Jet Reports Historic Posts Hi,
Jet v7 does not send e-mail via SMTP. It uses your Microsoft Outlook profile to send e-mails directly. Since it uses your Outlook profile, there is nothing to configure (you've already configured Outlook itself). Usually this works okay as long as you have all your exchange stuff set up in Outlook and you have all the Windows updates for Office installed. There are some settings and ways to configure Outlook that can get in the way sometimes and cause the e-mails to just end up in the "Drafts" folder instead of being sent, so if they aren't being sent you should check that folder.
Basically, sending e-mail via SMTP was a feature added in Jet Reports 2009 to allow people to send e-mail with the Jet Scheduler if either they didn't use Outlook or their Outlook configuration was having problems sending (the problem I just mentioned where e-mails end up in the drafts folder instead of being sent). Whether or not you will be able to use SMTP e-mailing if you upgrade to Jet 2009 depends on how locked down your IT department has made SMTP relay. If it's completely locked down and disabled, you have no alternative but to try and send through Outlook. If they have it locked down just to local IP addresses (people within your corporate network) or just to authenticated users, you should still be able to use SMTP e-mailing if you upgrade to Jet 2009 or later. Does this make sense?

Hughes
