Hi
I've just had jet installed, primarily for Dynamics GP2010, and wondered if i can connect to other databases e.g Access or Intersolve Databases. Can anyone point me in the right direction for tutorials or other info on this.
Many Thanks
Kevin

Jet Reports Historic Posts Hi Kevin,
Yes you can connect to Access or most other databases with an OLE or ODBC provider. I don't know much about Intersolve, so you would have to find out whether it has an OLE or ODBC provider available.
Basically in Jet, you create a new data source of type Universal. Then on the Connection page, you click the Configure button. This opens the Data Link Properties dialog which is a standard Windows dialog for configuring an OLE or ODBC data source connection. The fact that it's a standard dialog for this means that you can get information from anywhere on the web about how to use it.
In the case of Access, on the Provider tab, you want to choose the "Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider" (this provider is not related to Jet Reports). Then on the Connection tab, you select your Access file and put in a user name and password if the database is password protected. Then test the connection and you should be good to go. Does this help?

Jet Reports Historic Posts Hi Kevin,
I'm trying to attach to an Access DB too. I followed your steps but I get an error message: Unrecognized Database Format. My db has an extension of .accdb. Any suggestion as to what is wrong?
Thanks,

Jet Reports Historic Posts Hi Hughes,
Sorry for the confusion.

Jet Reports Historic Posts Hi John,
Probably the issue is that the Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider won't connect to newer versions of Access. I believe newer versions of Access have their own provider which is called something like "Microsoft Office 15.0 Access Database Engine OLE DB Provider" or something similar to that. Does this help?

Jet Reports Historic Posts Hi Hughes,
The version of Access that I plan to use is 2010. I can see "Microsoft Office 12.0 Access Database Engine OLE DB Provider" as an option on my drop down menu; but not the 15.0. Will this work too? Also; when they ask for datasource; are they looking for the path to my database? Normally there's a browse option.
Thanks,

Jet Reports Historic Posts John,
Yes, that's probably the right now. That's why I said it would look similar to the value I described, but not necessarily exactly the same. Also, I believe when they ask for data source they are looking for the path to the Access file. For some reason, the dialog for Access data sources has never had a Browse button to browse to the file, and I'm not sure why. That's part of the database provider, not part of Jet Reports, so it's not something Jet can change.
