Immediately upon opening certain reports, the 'Calculating...' prompt runs. The parameters haven't changed, the 'Refresh' button isn't pressed and it's not in design mode.
The report opens and runs the calculation action anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.
Doesn't happen with all my reports, just a few.
Any ideas as to why this may be happening? Much appreciated.

Whenever Excel opens a workbook, it will attempt to recalculate that workbook. If the workbook happens to contain Jet functions, Excel will call upon the Jet Excel add-in to recalculate those particular functions.
To minimize the impact this will have, you have a couple of options:
1) Keep the report in Design mode. If your report has many replicated areas created by NL(Rows), NL(Columns), or NL(Sheets) functions, being in Design mode will decrease the number of replicated functions that need to be recalculated.
or, better yet:
2) Set cell A1 to Auto+Hide+Values, run the report, and save the report in REPORT mode. Having +Values in cell A1 will remove the Jet functions from those cells (and place just the values there). In that way, when Excel recalcs, it will *not* call upon the Jet add-in to recalc those cells.

I am having the same issue. Even when the report is running through the Scheduler it is taking 3 to 4 minutes per report, but the actual data retrieval and calculating takes less than a minute. Is there a better way to make these reports run? it takes 6.5 hours to run 113 reports. Any help would be appreciated.
