Combine two lists into one list

 Hello!

Our NAV database has vendors with and without parent vendors.  I'd like to create a simple list of all vendors but have the vendors with parent vendors grouped by their parent vendor and the other vendors without parent vendors sorted along with the parent vendors.  I can't seem to combine the lists and get the results I want.  Currently I just use a work around of NL Rows for the parent vendors with their respective vendors listed and another NL Rows underneath this row with just the vendors without parent vendors.  Is there anyway to combine these two lists but keep the vendors with parent vendors grouped together?

  Hi Dan -

  My first guess is that your workaround is the way to accomplish this.  However... can we explore just a little?

  How do you define that a vendor has a parent vendor?  I assume you are using some field in the Vendor table to denote that?

  Hi Harry,

  Correct.  Our database has a Parent Vendor No. field in the Vendor table.  Only the vendors with parent vendors have an entry in that field.  Vendors without parent vendors do not have an entry for the Parent Vendor No.

  In that case, the two methods I could think of to accomplish what you are after would be to:

  a) list out the vendors - sorted by the Parent Vendor No. (as the primary sort) and any other field (e.g., name?  no.?) as a potential secondary sort

  b) creating a grouping report where the main NL(Rows) function lists the Parent Vendor No. (including blanks) and the nested NL(Rows) function lists the vendors with that value in their Parent Vendor No. field.  (you'd need to be sure to use the "@@"& technique in order to account for the blanks)

  Thanks Harry!  Both options worked.  I went with option b using grouping so I can subtotal some fields based on Parent Vendor No.
