PIL_RATE_1|PIL_RATE_2
I have a text field that has this value in it, above, which I need to ensure does not return data if that is present. I can't find a way of escaping the special character so it reads it as text.
Is it possible?

So, the actual value in the database is PIL_RATE_1|PIL_RATE_2 and you need to create a filter in an NL function to find it? How you get around that depends on how you are referencing it, but short answer is you could always use the ? as a value so your filter might be something like PIL_RATE_1?PIL_RATE_2
The question mark means any character, but this also assumes that there aren't values where there is some other value between those PIL RATEs
